bought GW prophecies around 2006 and played pve for about 6 months straight (mighty E/R with a pet), afterwards swapped to TA directly (slightly before or around the time glad rank was implemented) and since i liked the format so much I continued playing it along with some occasional RA, AB, HA and gvg runs until it was deleted.

Yeah, everyone knows lifes best philosophy is "If anything is too hard, just quit.."
I think I started about 2 and a half years ago, just doing RA and then signed up in a HA PuG thread playing with Tiyuri and some of his friends which really showed me how complex and rewarding the PvP side was, I only ever played with them two or three times but it was enough to get me hooked in =P

I got into a GvG guild 3 months after I started, then about a month later it disbanded due to drama, then I went back to PvE again. Played around a bit in HA but never really got into it, and started playing more "seriously" again a few weeks ago.

Started PvE in 2007. Got to smelly guild hall (5), PvE got zzzzzzz boring, started GvG. Did all dungeons in NM/HM, all mostly everything in both modes.
Do wish I had started PvP years ago, but there's nothing to be done for that, now Plan to start PvP in GW2 right away, so it's not such a climb up a really steep, slippery mountain.
|
exact same thing with me... EXACTLY. except i got gwamm too D: .. wanna do structured pvp with me as soon as gw2 comes out?:3

I would like to get into PvP but nobody in my Guild is doing PvP. I know these guys for such a long time that I don't want to pack up and leave the Guild. Tried some RA but that was not so great. So, I'm kind of stuck at the moment

Unless you purchase unlock packs, you will be at a great disadvantage if you try PvP'ing right out of the box. Beat the campaigns first, get well acquainted with the game mechanics and numerous skills, and identify every identifiable item you get. When you feel comfortable, go ahead and play in FA/JQ, AB, and RA.
I PvE'd for about six months sometime after Faction came out, then got bored and quit. I started playing again near the release of EotN and did PvP almost exclusively. I wish I had tried to get into GvG earlier since that's where all the fun is.

I started it in Beta. Way before rank ruined the format.
Edit:Anyone wanna do PvP from the start in GW2, count me in . I plan to stay in the loop on all major farming/pvp events this time around, enjoying the game can be done in the first 8 hours. In GW I missed all the major farms and PvP events going at my own pace. Damn that. I wanna be one of those guys 2 years into the game who can buy anything/give a good arguement on game fundamentals. Hell, even first 3 months.

i think i started pvp a few months after my first character was created, i wondered why there was such a big section in the manual. due to my lag-off-a-cliff pc i was terrible, though my friend began to play it when he started and i started to play more then. around last year in january i actually got a bit more into it since i passed the massive brick wall that is/was/will be RA, then in TA i failed. since the update giving everyone access to HA i have now learnt i fail at that too %D
i AB more often though not much, i guess i find it more fun because it allows idiots like me to go minion suicide ^^; JQ and FA are fun too when you're not an RoJ monk

First thing I did when I bought the game ~2 years ago was make a PvP char and unlock TA and HA . The only reason I do PvE is for the nice looking gear, although now you can buy PvP gear without TRPs so no need for that lame garbage anymore.

Bought the game summer 2005 after hearing from people in beta that it had great team pvp. Played through pve twice to learn basics and unlock skills/runes for 4/6 professions, while listening in on teamspeak to our guild's gvg matches.
Played flaggers in gvg back when they dueled, did a lot of airspike/spiritspam tombs when that was the most popular format, pretty much went pure gvg ever since the first championship season started, and started using pve to make chars for pvp when I learned about random superior items like lieutenants helm & the IAS fire wand.

I say don't worry about the disadvantage. 10,000 faction is all you need to put together a "real" build. The bigger issue is just experience, and PvE won't help much there.

I started doing that pvp in the shiverpeak arena for lvl10-15's. Never even made it to Lion's Arch for over a year since I went from there straight to making pvp characters and playing in RA once I got to lvl16.
